Route: Karakol-Karakol valley-Ala Kol lake-Takyr Tor pass (4,000m)-Chon uzen gorge-Hatija pass (4,300m)-peak Palatka (5,020m)-Altyn Arashsan valley-Karakol
Brief description: Palatka peak,of 5,020 m, can be seen from Altyn Arashan gorge and even from the northern coast of Issyk Kul lake. The top is one of the most beautiful in the area. The advantage of this tour is that participants can visit the Ala Kol lake and use this stop-over as acclimatization and to prepare the approach to the main climbing.
The classic route to the peak is one of the "lightest" among the "fivethousanders" of the Shaded mountains (Teskey Ala Too). However, it still requires the participants to have a certain knowledge of the techniques of movement on ice, snow, rocks and have a good physical condition.
Day to day plan:
Day 1- Karakol - Karakol valley - Kurgak Tor gorge - "Sirota"
The first half of theday is spent driving through the Karakol gorge in a 4x4 soviet military car. The second half of the day is spent walking 600m up and setting the camp in a tree line (3,000m) nearby crystal clean waters of Kurgak Tor. Briefing behind the bonfire. Working day 2-3 hours
Day 2-Lake AlaKol (3,500 m)
Smooth hike around the lake. Camp at the South-East coast of the lake. Working day 5-6 hours
Day 3-Takyr Tor pass (4,000 m)-Takyr Tor valley
The trail to the pass leads up and up, along the glacier and gives a great view the amazing AlaKol lakenfrom South-East. Camp at (3,400m)
Day 4-Recovery and rest day
The campsite is nearby wild hotsprings (3,400 m)
Day 5-Chon Uzen gorge
The route starts from the spruce forests to the moraine fields till the start of glacier
Day 6-Hatija pass (4,300 m), located on the main Terskey Ala Too
Day 7-Assault day - Ascent to the summit 5,020 m.- Then, descent to 4,700 m
Day 8- Descent to the "Eki Chat"-Junction of two gorges which is also the beginning of the Altyn Arashan Valley
Day 9- Altyn Arashan valley
Walking through Kyrgyz "Jailoo" where sheperds are installed in the summer and welcome you with a bowl of "Kumyz" (slightly fermented mare's milk drink popular with nomads). Camp in the famous Altyn Arashan valley (2,400 m)
Day 10-Transfer to Karakol
Conditions of the program:
Insurance. Please note you must have insurance which will cover the rescue by helicopter in case of health problem or accident. Your contract must mention “alpinist insurance which covers rescue works at altitude over 4 000 m. You have to provide us with all information about your insurance as well as your passport information in order for us to do all the necessary permits for you.
Equipment: Special gear: High-altitude tent, plastic double boots, crampons, ice-axe, carabiner, harness, 2-3 ice screws, 3-4 hardware, Friends, jumar, 1-2 ropes (5 m long), helmet.
Personal gear: Participants must have their equipment such as backpacks, personal sleeping bag up to -30 С, warm clothes, down jacket, jacket-windbreaker and pants-windbreaker, gloves, sunglasses, googles, headlamp etc. (The whole structure of personal equipment)
Physical requirements: Participants must be in good physical condition: they must feel comfortable with transitions over long distances, with rapid weather changes and with spending the night on the glaciers. Differences of heights range from 300 to 1,200 m in a vertical elevation. The maximum elevation is 5,020 m.
