Brief description: Want to visit the famous beautiful mountain lakes of Kyrgyzstan? You will have the opportunity not only to dip in the lakes and hot springs of Kyrgyzstan but also see the high mountains, glaciers, different landscapes and will be able to catch the sunrise and sunset for your photo collection.
The Son- Köl lake lies at an altitude of 3016m, located in northern Naryn Province. The area of the lake is about 270 km2, volume of 2.64 km3 and maximum length is 29 km. It is the second largest lake after Issyk-Köl lake and the largest fresh water lake in Kyrgyzstan. The lake is surrounded by a broad summer pastures and the mountains. We can say that the place is one of the must visit places in Kyrgyzstan where you will be able to feel the shepherds life in high pasture.
The Issyk- Köl lake (Issyk-Kul lake) is the world's second-largest alpine lake after Lake Titicaca in South America. The beauty of the lake made people to call it a pearl of Kyrgyzstan. Lake is 182 kilometres long, up to 60 kilometres wide and its area is 6,236 square kilometres, reaches 668 metres depth. The lake is located in a province with similar name Issyk- Köl in an altitude of 1,607 metres. About 118 rivers and streams flow into the lake. The name translates as “hot lake” and it doesn’t freeze in winter.
The Ala- Köl lake. Without a word it is a must see lake in Kyrgyzstan. It is located in Terskey Ala-Too range in an altitude of 3500m. The lake is 2,3 km long, 0,7 km wide and about 70m deep. It is a glacial lake. Local people call it “The lake which’s water can’t drink the dog”, it is because animals can’t get up to the lake. From the pass Takyr- Tör you will get an amazing view of the high points in the Teskey Ala-Too range.
Day to day plan:
Day 1. Arrival in international airport “Manas”, transfer to the hotel. Rest, lunch and city tour.
Visit the monument for national epic hero Manas, State History Museum, watch the ceremony of changing of Guard of Honor in the main square Ala-Too.
Day 2. After breakfast start the driving out to nature and village life. This day we will have about 4-5 hrs driving depending on how many times you want to stop for photos on the road. Home stay in Jumgal village.
Day 3. Meet the horses. Instructions on riding and start the riding to Kyzart pass (2664m) to reach the Son-Kol lake. Overnight in Yurts.
Day 4. Another riding day to the lake. Overnight in Yurts. Both days horse riding time is about 4-5hrs.
Day 5. Rest. Afternoon drive to Kochkor village. Home stay in village.
Day 6. This morning you will have some time for souvenir shopping in good quality felt products shop in Kochkor. After shopping start the driving to Issyk-Kol lake. Overnight in guest house close to the beach.
Day 7. Driving day to Karakol town, with excursion to Skazka canyons and Jety-Oguz red rocks. Both places are amazingly beautiful. Stay in guest house.
Day 8. Early visit to the Animal market which works only Sundays. It is large market where people sell their livestock for different aims. Sometimes we can find yaks. After explore the town. Have rest prepare for trekking.
Day 9. First half of day is spending by driving through into the Karakol gorge by 4x4 soviet military car. Second half of the day is smoothly walking for a 600 m up and camping in a tree line (3000m) nearby crystal clean water of Kurgak-Tor. Each day walk about 5-6hrs.
Day 10. The trail to Ala-Kol leads up and up, along the river (coming from the Ala-Kol lake). With a nice view for the waterfall, the amazing Ala-Kol lake, the glacier. Camp close to the glacier (3500m).
Day 11. The day to cross the glacier and the Takyr-Tor pass (4000m). We will start the day early to cross the glacier. When you reach the pass you will find yourselves surrounded by high peaks. After admiring, descent down from the pass. We will see another nice waterfall in Takyr-Tor valley and if lucky with the weather take wild hot spring on the way. Camp (3 000 m).
Day 12. Another gentle walk to Altyn-Arashan hot springs valley. The way goes through the valley which is frequently visited by shepherds, who usually feed their cattle during the summer. Enjoy the hot spring pools in Altyn-Arashan, rest. Stay in Yurt.
Day 13. First half of the day have some rest and start walking through the gorge where the car will take down to the Karakol town. Stay in same guest house in Karakol.
Day 14. A day drive to Bishkek with lunch and excursion to open air museum of petroglyphs in Cholpon-Ata town. Stay in hotel in Bishkek. Transfer to Airport.
Conditions of the program:
Equipment: Participants must have their equipment such as backpacks, desirable to have a personal sleeping bag, warm clothes, good trekking shoes, trekking poles, etc. (The whole structure of personal equipment)
Physical requirements: Participants must be in good physical condition, but don't need any special skills of mountaineering and horse riding. The differences of heights range from 600 m to 850 m in vertical elevation. The maximum elevation is 3 850 m.
